This email contains a mini case study but I also wanted to let you know this is the last day for you to save up to 45% on Koala AI content! (19 hours left at the time of writing). I loaded up with the Gold Pack a couple of days ago! You can even save 20% on the Basic credit pack ($95).
Now onto the case study (where Koala is playing a key role for me)A couple of months ago, I suddenly realised that one of the TOP traffic-driving posts on my site had simply disappeared from Google Search. Dropped like a stone. Here's an example. You can see this top post fall off a cliff around Oct 8: And here's the "real world" impact in Analytics (thank you, Looker Studio): As you can see, this post was bringing around 75 visitors per day to my site and was one of the posts that contributed to getting into Mediavine! But with all the HCU craziness, it took me a while to notice what had happened (don't you just love having multiple sites on the go!). What did I do? I immediately submitted the post in GSC. Nothing happened. I remove some copy from the post, i.e. some minor updates. I changed the title and again submitted to GSC. Nothing happened! Weeks passed, and still no sign. As we often do when nothing seems to be working, I went "nuclear!" Ok, a bit dramatic but it's Tuesday - let's pick things up a gear here. My conclusion was that Google just did not like this post. For whatever reason, it was one or more of the following (or all these!):
I think the first, second and last points were the main reasons. When I took a critical look at the post, like many others on the site, it just didn't read that well. Why? Well, mainly because I was scaling up my content quickly and while I started off researching the topics and providing high level briefs to writers, I soon just gave titles to my project manager at WriterAccess and trusted writers to pen a solid article covering the topic. But that doesn't mean you get back a well-written, comprehensive article of course! So what did work?Well, I certainly wasn't going to go back and pay a writer $40 or $60 to rewrite this post. Not if there was a quicker or less expensive way to get it ranking and driving traffic again. Instead, I threw the kitchen sink at it and decided to replace the entire post with AI content. Why do I like trying AI content as well as human-written articles? I find AI covers a topic in a no-nonsense way and more importantly, quite comprehensively. You can see this with the option to choose your subheadings after the AI writer provides you with a selection of them. So I got my AI writer to do the job. I submitted to GSC and lo and behold, here's what happened on Halloween (spook-tacular, eh?): BOUNCE-BACK!The post is getting around 60 visits/day again, is back in the top 5 posts on the site, and has generated 1,546 sessions in the past 28 days: Not only that, but it looks like this AI-written post is doing a fantastic job of engaging readers. You can see the bounce rate is much lower than the average, meaning most site visitors are hopping to another post my my site, instead of leaving. To me, that's a sign the AI content is more engaging than what was previously there. Now, this is a process I am repeating right now. Whenever I see a post still ranking in GSC but nowhere to be found when I search on the article title, I simply do this:
And any time I've done this, the post pops back up within 24-48 hours or sooner! I've even seen the bounce-back within hours! Now, am I saying Koala content contains such magic Google-revival sauce? Of course not. Am I saying you NEED Koala for this? Nope, but I can see how it's working for me. And how I am paying around $5 per article with Koala to achieve this result, vs the $40 or $60 I was paying months ago! (By the way, I am also working with a writer on WriterAccess to develop content for another site that requires expert content (she's a super-qualified scientist). That's really important for certain niches that are more technical. Back to the site above - what's happening here?My theory is that Google WANTS to rank my "disappearing" pages but it just needs to see an improved version of the page before it promotes it again. This technique does not seem to work as well for pages that have been hit by HCU and other updates, although I am still using Koala to improve those pages too. What I am talking about here are pages that have dropped like a stone, but still showing as top posts in GSC. Why not just use ChatGPT for free?I was reluctant to shell out for AI content when I could "just use ChatGPT". But there is no comparison between ChatGPT and Koala, especially given how Koala now even gives you the choice of auto-inserting images and videos into your posts before you hit publish! You can even have Koala send drafts to your WordPress site (no more tedious copying and pasting). How much value do you place on your time? All the above brings that $5/article cost down much further again! There are various packages available. But if you sign up to the Gold Package, you will also be on the list for their new automatic internal linking module coming soon! And what I like most of all? Soon you will get to cut down on your editing time MASSIVELY because you'll be able to use "Text Fine Tuning". This is where you can give Koala samples of your content in your desired tone and style, and the Koala team will train a new private model - just for you - to replicate your samples! This is advanced stuff, and you'll be on the waiting list with the Gold Package. What more can I say? If you go for the Gold Pack, and your average article length is around 1,000 words, you will have enough credits over the next year (the credits last for one year) to write a staggering 2,500 articles (with ChatGPT-3.5, which is good enough for me!). This is what sealed the deal for me. 2,500 articles for $5.11 per article. 2.5 million words for a grand total of $489. Take a look at the Koala Black Friday sale before it ends for another yearI'll be back next week with more details on my plan to get my traffic back! It is showing promising signs so far! Have a great weekend. Anton P.S. there are affiliate links in this email, but as you can tell, I am a huge fan of both WriterAccess and Koala! As ever, I only recommend products and services that bring me results I can show you. View a list of all my recent newsletters (you may find some nuggets and insights). |
